Mozambique Belt (MB) This broad belt defines the southern part of the East African Orogen and essentially consists of medium- to high-grade gneisses and voluminous granitoids. It extends south from the Arabian-Nubian Shield into southern Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia via Tanzania to Malawi and Mozambique and also includes Madagascar (Figure 2). Southward continuation of the belt into Dronning Maud Land of East Antarctica (Figure 1) has been proposed on the basis of geophysical patterns, structural features and geochronology.
